Asian

People from Asia have been settling in Manchester since the nineteenth century but migration increased significantly after the Second World War. Many people arrived from countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and later China and other parts of East and Southeast Asia. They were attracted by employment opportunities in Manchester's textile mills, manufacturing industries, transport services and healthcare sector. Communities developed in areas such as Rusholme, Longsight, Cheetham Hill and parts of Oldham and Greater Manchester.

Asian migrants often faced challenges such as discrimination and economic hardship but they established strong communities through businesses, places of worship, cultural organisations and family networks. The development of Manchester's Chinatown (now one of the largest in Europe) and the growth of the famous Curry Mile in Rusholme reflect the lasting influence of Asian communities on the city.

Today their contributions can be seen in business, education, medicine, politics, the arts and community leadership, helping to shape Manchester into one of the UK's most diverse and multicultural cities.
